Tooth Whitening

  • A process by which discoloured teeth are lightened. It uses either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.
  • It is a safe procedure when carried out by professionals. It can however lead to sensitive teeth during the use of the chemicals.
  • The effectiveness of the whitening procedure is dependent on the amount of staining. Fillings, crowns and bridges will not change in colour with whitening. They may need to be replaced after the whitening to match the new shade of the teeth.
  • Whitened teeth will always relapse to their original colour. The speed of this return will depend on smoking status, amount of coffee and tea consumed as well as red wine among other things
